new trends in driving simulation & VR science and technology, Palais des congrès, Antibes, France, September 9-11, 2020
It is again with great pleasure that the Driving Simulation Association is editing this book, which is a Driving Simulation Europe VR (DSC) Conference proceedings, a collection of full and short papers as well as abstracts of posters presented at the 2020 edition of the DSC Conference. They witness new results in driving simulation and VR science and technology, experiments, and trends in driving simulator design, as well as the continuous and intense interest for motion cueing algorithms and visual rendering. Cyber and motion sickness is an increasingly developing research theme brought by VR based systems as well as the advent of autonomous vehicles which may place users in unexpected motion conditions, without getting useful feedback on driver's actions. They also continue to show the recent revolution researchers and engineers' experiment in the use of Driving Simulation. These new trends are the direct consequence of the extraordinarily fast development of virtual reality and its progressive integration with driving simulation as well as the development of autonomous and connected vehicles. We decided this year to give a specific place to the first papers submitted in the framework of the Sustainable Mobility Simulation Contest. This new challenge is a part of the Driving Simulation Association ethics policy, the association is targeting to link undergoing research with major social challenges, such as sustainable development. Students have submitted several solutions, one published in the present Proceedings, one in the Industrial Solution Book, a separate edition, introduced last year, dealing with industrial driving simulation software solutions.
