## Résumé

Alors qu'il se bat contre les Turcs, le vicomte Medardo di Terralba est fendu en deux par un boulet de canon. Seule la moitié droite est retrouvée. De retour dans son château après avoir été soigné, le vicomte, dépourvu de sa partie gauche, devient vil et cruel, terrorisant tous ceux qu'il croise sur son passage. À travers ce conte philosophique aux péripéties rocambolesques, Italo Calvino explore la condition de l'homme contemporain avec un humour inépuisable.
