## Résumé

The images gathered here create a canopy that is rich in meaning and which contributes to a debate about the separation between artistic savoir faire and the scientific understanding of nature and its spiritual, cultural, and political implications. The tree is a powerful subject in this respect, raising questions about the purpose of our civilisation and its relationship with nature. After all, the tree needs our unconditional protection as a key element in a balanced biodiversity.
