When a New York student discovers that he has become a god, he is at first incredulous. But he discovers that gods can be mortal and that their worlds are a source of envy. For jealous gods are on the prowl. To steal divinity, to increase one's divinity, is tempting. This is what a medieval witch learned the hard way. But escaping from earthly mediocrity is also tempting. To become a god for good: that is perhaps the ultimate temptation.
